Chapter Hosts Blasters’ Training in June

On June 28th, 2018, The Eastern PA Chapter conducted an 8hr Blasters’ Training refresher class to meet PADEP requirements for continuing education for blaster license renewal. Dave Harrison, Training Committee Chairman and Danny Ray Leach, Program Committee Chairman organized the class and facilitated the program.

The class was held at the Hollywood Casino in Grantville, PA.  Twenty-four attendees enjoyed the curriculum consisting of a variety of topics led by local industry leaders.  Presenters included: Dave Warpula, Dyno Nobel, “Lessons Learned”;  Randy Gardner, Vibra- Tech Engineers,  “Blasting Law”; Ed Gawrys, Sandvik, “A Cushion of Safety – For Drill Rigs and Drilling Sites”; Brian Wingfield, ISEE, “Ramsey’s Riddles” (with calculators donated by the Mid- Atlantic Chapter ISEE); Derek Bowen, Sauls Seismic, “Proper Installation and Utilization of Blasting Seismographs”; Dave Harrison, Terra Mechanics, “A Demolition Case Study”; Rick Lamkie, Chief Explosives and Safety, PADEP,  “Update on current regulations and New Chapter 210 and 211”; Sandy Pelletier, Maine Drilling & Blasting, “Hazard Recognition”; Cara Rosen, Orica USA, “Drone Applications in Blasting”; and James Buchanan, KEMEK  LLC, “Quarry Case Study and Importance of Accurate Drill Logs”. Nicolle Harman, PADEP, was on hand to help participants submit photos and certificates for license renewals.
